Dr. James Lusk has striven to provide the Ark-La-Tex with quality eye care for more than a quarter century.
Originally from Houston, Dr. Lusk graduated with honors from the
University of Notre Dame and received his medical degree from Tulane School of Medicine. He served his internship at Baylor College of Medicine and was a resident in Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health
Science Center in San Antonio. He held a fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the University of Texas
Health Science Center in Houston. Dr. Lusk is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and
the American Board of Eye Surgery. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is a member of
the prestigious American College of Eye Surgeons. Dr. Lusk was a founder of the Northwest Louisiana Lions
Eye Bank and currently serves as co-medical director. He also serves as an associate clinical professor of
ophthalmology at LSU Medical School in Shreveport. Dr. Lusk has personally performed more than 40,000 eye surgery procedures since establishing practice in Shreveport in 1980.
VISX, the company that invented the technology currently used for Laser Vision Correction (LASIK), named
Dr. Lusk one of 50 Laser Vision Correction instructors in the United States. He was instrumental in bringing the United States’ second VISX excimer laser to the Ark-La-Tex in 1996 and performed the first VISX PRK and the first VISX LASIK procedures in the area, making him the most experienced VISX surgeon in the region.
In August of 2003, Dr. Lusk performed the first CustomVue® LASIK procedure in the Ark-La-Tex and continues to be the most experienced CustomVue® LASIK surgeon in the region.
In March of 2005, Dr. Lusk performed the first Blade-Free LASIK procedure in Shreveport using IntraLase
technology. Since that time, he has performed more Blade-Free CustomVue LASIK procedures than all other
surgeons in the Ark-La-Tex combined.
Dr. Lusk also specializes in Carefree™ Cataract Surgery. He performs well over 1,000 cataract procedures
each year, making him one of the most experienced cataract surgeons in the region. According to MarketScope,
Dr. Lusk is consistently in the top 5% of all cataract surgeons in the United States in relation to procedures
performed each year.
Dr. Lusk is a co-founder of the Eye Surgery Center, which opened its doors in July of 2003. The Eye Surgery
Center is the only freestanding ambulatory surgery center in the area dedicated solely to eye surgery. It also houses the first VISX S4 Excimer Laser System with Wavescan technology in the Ark-La-Tex.
For those patients who are too nearsighted for LASIK, Dr. Lusk is also one of a select group of surgeons
nationally certified to implant the Verisyse™ phakic intraocular lens implant. In June of 2005, Dr. Lusk implanted
the first Verisyse lens in the Ark-La-Tex.
In addition to offering his patients the most advanced methods of laser vision correction available today,
Dr. Lusk is also certified to implant several different multifocal or accommodating intraocular lenses. These lenses
offer patients a much broader range of vision after their cataract surgery.
Dr. Lusk has offices in both Shreveport and Minden. In January of 2004, Dr. Lusk opened his new state-of-the-art office in the Ashley Ridge Business Park in southeast Shreveport.

Dr. Bryan Lusk is a freshly minted, Louisiana-licensed, ophthalmologist who, in June of 2010, completes his fellowship specialization in Cornea, External Diseases of the Eye, and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Lusk returns to the Ark-La-Tex after pursuing his education and medical training on the East Coast.
Dr. Lusk, the son of Dr. James Lusk, was raised in Shreveport. He graduated from Caddo Magnet High School in 1997 and left to pursue his college education at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem NC where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magnum Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Dr. Lusk had such a fantastic experience at Wake Forest that he stayed in Winston-Salem for medical school as well. In medical school, Dr. Lusk’s mentors noted that he was enthusiastic, hardworking, compassionate, a self-starter, and a good communicator. A mentor noted, “One can find few students who have as much professionalism as Bryan exhibits.”
Dr. Lusk graduated from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 2005 and moved to Washington DC to complete an internship in internal medicine and residency in ophthalmology at Georgetown University / Washington Hospital Center. During his residency, Dr. Lusk’s mentors noted that he “demonstrates a strong sense of integrity in his work” and that his “decision making and evaluation of patients has consistently been appropriate and his observations are astute”. The Georgetown chairman similarly stated that “his medical knowledge and clinical skills are excellent, and his surgical skills exceed expectations. His interactions with patients, staff, and faculty are exemplary. He is completely reliable and thorough.” Dr. Lusk was also VISX excimer laser certified for laser refractive surgery during his residency. Following an intensive four years in Washington, Dr. Lusk moved to Atlanta Georgia to complete a Corneal Fellowship at the prestigious Eye Consultants of Atlanta, where he trained under world renowned mentors Drs. Barry Lee, Alan Kozarsky, Stephen Hamilton, and Evan Loft. Dr. Lusk performed over 100 corneal transplants including extensive experience with new techniques such as the “partial thickness” Endothelial Keratoplasty, DSEK. During his fellowship Dr. Lusk was Intralase certified completing a number of refractive procedures, including Custom LASIK and PRK, under expert guidance. Due to the unique nature of his fellowship he was also able to perform hundreds of cataract surgeries as well as gain experience in complex anterior segment reconstruction for severely traumatized or diseased eyes.
Dr. Lusk now returns to Shreveport as a welcome addition to his father’s practice and as a legacy to Dr. James Lusk’s thirty years of providing outstanding eye care to the Ark-La-Tex.

Dr. Jon Branton joined the practice of Dr. James Lusk in 1994. He began his career with Dr. Robert Azar and provided general eye care and pre- and post-operative care to cataract, RK, and corneal patients. He also made grand rounds at both Tulane and LSU Medical Schools in New Orleans.
Dr. Branton was in private practice from 1982-1993, where he was instrumental in establishing the first hospital-based Low Vision Clinic in Louisiana. He also trained residents in low vision.
Since joining Lusk Eye Specialists, Dr. Branton has participated in the care of thousands of cataract, corneal, RK, LASIK and glaucoma patients. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and is licensed to diagnose and treat ocular disease by the Louisiana Board of Optometry. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
Dr. Branton also serves as an associate in the practice of Dr. Donald Walker in Shreveport.

Dr. Marimel S. Tilley graduated high school in Vallejo, CA. She enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as an Allergy/Immunology Technician in the 2nd Medical Group of Barksdale AFB, LA. After her honorable discharge, Dr. Tilley graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University in Shreveport. Later that same year, she received a second bachelor’s degree from Louisiana Tech University with the distinction of Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Tilley received her Doctorate degree with honors from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Tilley joined the practice of Dr. James Lusk in 2006 providing thorough and compassionate pre-and post-operative care to LASIK, cataract, corneal, and primary eye care patients.
In 2007, Dr. Tilley received her commissioning as an officer of the United States Air Force Reserve. She presently supports the mission of the 917th Medical Squadron at Barksdale Air Force Base, LA
Dr. Tilley is therapeutically licensed to diagnose and treat ocular disease by the Louisiana State Board of Optometry. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Optometric Association of Louisiana.
Dr. Tilley currently resides in Bossier City, LA with her husband Jim, who is an active duty member of the United States Air Force for over 20 years.
