James E. Lusk, M.D.
Dr. James Lusk is not only the founder of Lusk Eye Specialists; he's a man who’s dedicated his life to improving vision across the Ark-La-Tex, including his own. After decades of restoring sight for others, he became a cataract patient himself and entrusted his own sons, Dr. Bryan and Dr. Jeffrey Lusk, to perform his surgery. That moment reflects what defines Dr. Lusk’s legacy: advanced expertise, deep family roots, and a commitment to care that feels personal.
A Pioneer in Ophthalmic Excellence
In 1985, Dr. James Lusk founded what would become one of the most respected ophthalmology practices in Louisiana. With fellowship training in cornea, refractive, and cataract surgery, he brought advanced surgical techniques to the region long before they were standard. He also pioneered the development of the only freestanding ophthalmic surgery center in the Ark-La-Tex, providing a more cost-effective and specialized alternative to hospital-based procedures.
Throughout his career, he has performed thousands of cataract and LASIK surgeries, trained the next generation of surgeons, and led the practice with a belief that every patient should be treated like family, because for him, that’s exactly what they are.

When he's not in the clinic or mentoring his sons, Dr. Lusk enjoys time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with Dr. Bryan and Dr. Jeffrey. He’s also a proud grandfather, a former youth baseball and soccer coach, and a familiar face in the Shreveport-Bossier community he’s served for more than 45 years.
