Susan Donald, O.D. – Scleral Lens Specialist

Dr. Susan G. Donald, O.D., FAAO, is a highly experienced optometrist specializing in personalized eye care for patients who can’t see with traditional glasses at our Shreveport location. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Vision Science from Ferris State University and earned her Doctor of Optometry from the Michigan College of Optometry. Dr. Donald completed a residency in Primary Care with a Fellowship in Teaching at the Illinois College of Optometry. She also holds certifications from the University of Houston College of Optometry as an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist and in Ocular Therapeutics, along with an MBA from Louisiana State University.

With a strong focus on keratoconus treatment options and complex visual conditions, Dr. Donald is a recognized expert in hard-to-fit contact lenses and custom contact lens design. She provides advanced keratoconus treatment using specialty contact lenses for keratoconus, including scleral lens fitting for irregular corneas. One of her most unforgettable patient moments involved helping someone from overseas see his wife and child clearly for the first time with rigid gas-permeable lenses—an emotional experience that continues to fuel her passion for vision restoration.

Dr. Donald is a specialist in contact lenses for vision restoration and continually pursues the highest standards of care. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of the Gas Perm Lens Institute and the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control. Patients value her thoroughness, empathy, and commitment to helping them achieve better vision and a better quality of life. She encourages patients to share their concerns openly, allowing them to work together toward the best possible outcomes.

Originally from Michigan, Dr. Donald now lives in Carthage, TX, on her husband’s family land, where they care for cows, horses, and a cat named Alice. When not helping patients, she enjoys flying, gardening, cooking for loved ones, and traveling—especially to visit presidential libraries, explore new coffee shops, and attend continuing education focused on specialty contact lenses for keratoconus. She cherishes time with her two daughters and son-in-law in Dallas, where they enjoy the company of their three beloved dogs.
